Peter Heine Nielsen

Title: Peter Heine Nielsen
Date: 25/05 - 20/06/08
Medium: Photoshop CS3, wacob tablet
Description: Danish Grandmaster Peter Heine Nielsen! The strongest Danish Player! Note the red-and-white flag in the background.

Here's some symbol explaining:

1. The Knights. White because of the pun.
2. The demoboard Bishops. In French and Hungarian, they're called jokers or jesters. I gave them those 2 faces they use in theater, the happy and sad one.
3. The red pieces. This is actually some Alice in Wonderland inspiration. In my research, I stumbled acroos a "computer" that would play me as the Red Queen:

If anyone wanna try, here's the address: http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/wonderland/redqueen.htm (she's not so difficult, hopefully Heine's opponent is better ;)).

Thanks to IM Mark Ginsburg for helping with a bunch of stuff and giving feedback and inspiration! The Bishops are unfortunally no longer coloured thistle (D8BFD8), but I did make a lot less blood on the captured Pawn. There is also, sadly, no Heineken beer on the table. And to GM Rahmaninov who did half of the work for me by providing a left-demo-board position and name.

As a later note: my dear brother showed me how to draw shadows, because as you've all probably noticed, there's some perspective and lighting issues that, although fun as elements of creativity and fantasy, aren't in synch with reality. For the non-Danes out there, the text says: "A lightsource, this is how you draw shadows, Carina!". At the bottom is a highly refined signature:

How to draw shadows

Thanks to my brother for helping me evolve my style and art with these golden nuggets of constructive criticism!
